BIG STONE GAP, VA - Frank Clark, 83, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Norton Community Hospital, Norton, VA.
He was a member, deacon, and Sunday School superintendent at the Ayers Chapel Church, Big Stone Gap, VA. He was a US Army veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a longtime employee of Buckles Supermarket and Oakwood Market. He was a very giving, humble servant of God.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Sarah Clark on October 19, 2017; parents, Elbert and Myrtle Snader Clark; sisters, Helen Hopkins, Agnes Grubb, Nancy Diets, Mary Delph, infant Patricia Clark; brothers, John Clark, Bert Clark, Harold Clark; in-laws, Willie and Maxie Marcum; sister-in-law, Marjorie Mullins; brothers-in-law, Butch Marcum, Bob Marcum, and Jerry Marcum.
He is survived by a daughter, Tweety Clark and Richard Norton of Kingsport, TN; 2 brothers, Joe Clark and wife, Betty of Dryden, VA, Henry Clark and wife Linda of Big Stone Gap, VA; several nieces, nephews, and friends; brother-in-law, Joe Marcum and wife Nell of Crest View, FL.
Memorial services for Frank and Sarah and a celebration of their lives will be held at 2 pm Saturday, January 20th, 2018 at the Cornerstone House of Prayer, Big Stone Gap, VA. officiated by Rev. PENNINGTON GAP, VA - Beatrice J. Jones of Pennington Gap, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018.
She was born in Keokee, VA, the daughter of the late John M. and Laura Alice Johnston. Beatrice graduated from Radford College in Radford, VA and taught school in both Lee County and Michigan schools. She was of the Methodist faith and a member of the Pennington Gap United Methodist Church. Preceding her in death was her husband Charles W. Jones, five brothers; Dock, Paul, Charles, Earl and Roscoe Johnston, and two sisters, Alice Jones and Lorene Ely and daughter and son-in-law, Laura Jane and Richard McCarty. Survivors are; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha (Deacon) Jakubowski; and Doris (Jerry) Lesinski; grandchildren; Edward and Timothy McCarty, Derek Lesinski and Katie McArthur. Great grandchildren; Jacob and Alex Lesinski and Adalynn McArthur, Eric and Cora McCarty; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Johnston, Wilma Johnston, and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 from 12 until 2:00 p.m. in the Mullins-Sturgill Funeral Home in Pennington Gap with funeral service following with Rev. Nancy Hobbs, Associate Pastor (FUMC) and Rev. Kyle Burnette. Interment will follow in Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, VA. Pallbearers will be chosen from family and friends. ROGERSVILLE - Deloris Lea Stubblefield, age 86, of Rogersville, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Signature Healthcare.
She was a daughter of the late Larry and Mae Underhill Goodson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R.L. Stubblefield; sisters, Wynis Jones, Beatrice Yount, and Estella Mullins, grandsons, Lee and Larry Stubblefield; mother and father-in-law, Tom and Ida Stubblefield; and niece, Judy Ott.
She was a member of Persia Baptist Church, where she attended as long as her health allowed. She enjoyed, fishing, quilting, gospel singing, and outdoor activities.
Survivors include her loving daughters, Carolyn Miner and husband Michael, and Vickie Cooke; sons, Richard Stubblefield and wife Donna, Heiskell Stubblefield and wife Karen; sister, Drucilla Trent; 8 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; a special niece, Amy Wilder. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, from 4:00 until 6:00 pm at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville. The funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm with Rev. Rick Dinkins officiating. Due to the expected inclement weather, the committal service will be held Tuesday night following the service. The graveside service will be private.

FORT BLACKMORE, VA - Margaret Ann Sawyer, 75, Fort Blackmore, VA entered eternal peace with her Lord after a brief illness at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, TN on January 14, 2018.
Margaret was born in Oneida, KY on May 16, 1942 to the late Taylor and Martha Clark.In addition to her parents, her husband of 58 years, James N. Sawyer; step-mother, Julia Clark, and brother, Garnett Clark preceded her in death.
She was a member of Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Fort Blackmore, VA. She leaves behind a true testament of her faith and dedication to her Lord and Savior. She loved everyone so much and as a result of that, she was loved by many.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Norman (Ann) Sawyer, Bub Sawyer, Durand (Carolyn) Sawyer, Travis (Sherry) Sawyer, Mack Sawyer and girlfriend, Jennifer Puckett; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Cecil, Paul, and Gene Clark; sisters, Wanda Farmer and Linda Young; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Terry Rhoton officiating. Music will be provided by Pine Grove Harmony.
Graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Brickey Cemetery, Fort Blackmore, VA. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

James "Wesley" Smith
KINGSPORT - James “Wesley” Smith, 85, Kingsport, passed away on January 14, 2018 after a long battle with Parkinson disease.
He was born in Scott County, VA on March 15, 1932. Wesley joined the U.S. Air Force where he gained the rank of Staff Sergeant as a member of the Air Police. He worked at the Kingsport Press until 1963 and moved to New Jersey where he retired from Amtrak as a Train Announcer at Penn Station, NY. Wesley then returned to Kingsport to be closer to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James R. and Edith Smith, and brothers, Virgil Smith and Charles “Bud” Smith.
Wesley is survived by his wife of 63 years, Thelma R. Marcum Smith; daughters, Teresa Sheffey (Ronald) and Elaine Argentiere (John); grandchildren, Elizabeth Pachciarz (Luke), Dr. James Sheffey (Kim), Ashley Parry (David),, and Jessica Perry (Eric); great-grandchildren, Connor, Caitlin, Collin, Caiden and Henry; sister, Nellie Bolling; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born in Greene County, Mrs. Wines had lived most of her life in Sulphur Springs. Katheryn worked in food service having been employed at several local restaurants and Washington County School System. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother she was a good seamstress who loved to read in addition to being a good cook. Katheryn was of the Baptist faith.
Preceded in death by her husband Jay Wines -1980; parents Ernest and Mattie Miller; son Jay Wines Jr.; grandson Scott Langley.
Surviving include her sons, Dickie Wines of Jonesborough, Randall Wines and wife Tammy of Jonesborough; daughters, Janet Binney and husband Clete of Phoenix, AZ. , Jeni Wines of Columbia, S.C., Pat Stephens and husband Randy of Rex, GA., Cathy Bryson of Stockbridge, GA.; loving daughter-in-law Ida Steger; special caregiver Laura Tester, twenty five grandchildren, forty nine great grandchildren, seventeen great great grandchildren.

GATE CITY, VA - Dorothy S. Salling, 93, of Gate City, went home to be with her Heavenly Father and to reunite with the love of her life of 72 years, Rev. Wrightly Salling on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at her daughters residence in Jacksonville, FL.
Dorothy was the epitome of a pastor’s wife. She attended church services, revivals, jubilees, and camp meetings alongside her husband. Always a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be truly missed by all that loved her. She was a former member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church and was a current member of Oak Glen Baptist Church before her passing. She loved to sew; she especially loved to put up vegetables by canning and freezing. She prepared many meals for people in need including the sick and shut-in and was very well known for her fried apple pies and her red velvet cake.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, Pink and Esther Shuffler; sister, Ruth Mellons; brothers, Avery Shuffler and R.C Shuffler.
She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Hill and husband Michael of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter, Marquitta “Marti” Kestner and husband Drew of Los Angeles, CA; great-grandson, Caine Blais of Jacksonville, FL; along with several nieces and nephews; special friends, Doris Couch and Wrightly Allen Horne.
The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 1 pm with Pastor Danny Sykes officiating. Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery.
